Old & Rare American Oak

17 Year Old American Oak ex-Bourbon Single Cask TD0129 was filled in August 2006 and decanted in March 2024, for a maturation of 17 years and 7 months.

After such a long maturation, this 200L American oak ex-bourbon cask yielded only 180 bottles at 47.5% ABV.

Boasting a depth and refinement that can only come with age, our Old & Rare American Oak single casks are matured for a minimum of sixteen years in American oak casks previously used to age bourbon. Aside from the notes of vanilla, caramel, coconut, fruit, and subtle white floral and herbal nuances, these whiskies are hugely textural with incredible complexity and length of palate.

As single cask bottlings, every tiny batch is different, expressing the unique characteristics of each barrel. Each bottle comes in a handmade, solid oak presentation box, and includes a letter of authenticity signed by our Distillery Manager.

TASTING NOTES

  • Nose

    An enticing mix of coconut-raspberry slice, eucalyptus bark, and clear apple juice. Sweet berry notes evolve into lychee, blackberry, and citrus peels. A subtle grain character and a touch of maple bacon add depth, with hints of cardamom tying it together.

  • Palate

    Rich and full-bodied, with a silky texture. Lemon sherbet, mandarin, and apricot-coconut cubes lead, balanced by white pepper and roasted artichokes in brine. Sweet roasted green bell peppers and floral rose petal jam add intrigue, while tropical fruits and banana round out the profile.

  • Finish

    Lingering notes of banana and raspberry jam, with sweet grain continuing throughout. Ginger beer and grapefruit bring a refreshing zing, while vanilla musk, cardamom, and coriander seeds provide warmth. Eucalyptus returns, joined by a cool minty freshness to close.

Our American Oak ex-Bourbon expressions are matured in a barrel that has previously been used once to age bourbon. Our most awarded expression, American oak ex-Bourbon barrels carry notes of sweet vanilla, coconut and fruit salad.
